Are Logan Stankoven and Mavrik Bourque Getting Even More Dangerous?
It sure as hell seems so.
Logan Stankoven and Mavrik Bourque were always gonna be the top of the class in Dallas/Cedar Park. Obviously, there’s their pedigree as excellent players in major junior. And there’s their pedigree as the best Dallas has to offer when it comes to a prospect pipeline. But I wasn’t convinced they’d be the top of the AHL class. Boy was I wrong.
Through five games Stankoven is eighth in scoring with 7. Bourque is not far behind with 6. Were it not for whatever spinach Montreal prospect Joshua Roy has been eating (5th rounder from 2021 with 11 points), both Stars prospects would be within striking distance of the lead, as the next highest player is Connor Zary (Calgary) with 8 points through four games.
However, as I always say, production is not as interesting to me as performance. After all, there are plenty of lucky points. There’s no such thing as lucky shifts. Through five games, Stankoven and Bourque aren’t just power play merchants, or products of high shooting percentages. They’re a threat every time they’re on the ice. So that’s why we’re here today; to observe a chemistry that only appears to be getting stronger.
PSA: I know I’m repeating myself, but I always feel weird about locking people out of content. Don’t forget there’s a way for you to read this place for free: just share it wherever you’re extremely online be it Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc and the algorithm will figure out the rest. Also, there’s gonna be tons of free content this week between two postgame recaps following the Penguins and Leafs games this week, and a mailbag. While I intend to do Texas Stars coverage don’t forget that you get game-by-game updates and reports from 100DegreeHockey.
