Don’t tell anyone but I’m stealing Reddit’s template.
I probably should have left this place alone, but now that people are paying, it feels weird to leave this place unattended for a full week. You probably won’t ever see something like this again, but what can I say; I miss you people!
If you’ve been following my Twitter account, you know this isn’t about lack of content. I started to re-watch games for various pieces, but I decided to re-watch the playoffs instead because why the hell not. The playoffs are fun. I was thinking of writing a Playoff Blame-O-Meter for each game (was it Game 2 versus Vegas that lost them that series or was it something else?) but unfortunately ESPN+ doesn’t have the Vegas series on replay.
I’ve also been catching up on the death metal/grindcore scene, which I ignored as a teenager/young adult. But you don’t know care about that. It’s not a beat. But I do have a schedule and I thought I’d share it with you.
August 7-11
D Magazine: Next week I’ll be talking about Matt Duchene. This should be good because I think there’s a very big conversation about the specific talents he brings. Should be up mid-late that week.
Substack: I always overwrite shit. I hate it, but it’s just in my blood. Whatever it is that keeps my mind off-topic (this isn’t an ADHD thing) it’s like a plate of delicious nachos. I can always go for another. Because of that I make sure to overwrite my first draft. It’s easier to take away than to add in the end. However, certain things get lost that I think deserve their own story. Yes, for the cynics, it’s a nice way to plug all the different platforms I’m on, but I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think there was something interesting that deserved its own spotlight. So yea, this piece will be about what was lost in the cutting room re: Matt Duchene.
Defending Big D: I’ll be on Stargazing talking to Wes and maybe Mark about my approach to analysis, and the importance of analytics.
August 14-18
Substack: Cap talk!
August 21-25
D Magazine: The topic? Pete DeBoer. And his system. That’s right. Mike is crazy enough to let me do a systems writeup knowing full well that kind of stuff is like kicking SEO in the beanbag and then doing a speed routine on said bruised beanbag ala Dumb and Dumber.
Substack: Same thing as above. Whatever I didn’t include, I’ll find at least one morsel to expand upon.
2 Girls, 1 Stanley Cup Podcast: Jordan and Taylor were kind enough to invite me to their podcast. I seriously can’t wait.
September 4-8
Defending Big D: I’ll be introducing my September Prospect Rankings. Yes, I will keep track of this throughout the year.
D Magazine: TBD
Substack: A Tales from the Clipped piece on Thomas Harley (paid).
Special (maybe) announcement: I finally got something cooking on a front I promised you all that I think I’m about to deliver on. Original artwork. I think you’re gonna love this. I have Plan B and Plan C lined up just in case, but Plan A is like a hat trick in a Game 7: I promise you it won’t miss. More than just something to put in a lobby, or a substitute for lack of a photo bucket, it will ignite conversations. It’s gonna be that cool. We’re not gonna just build back something resembling a beat for Dallas Stars coverage. We’re gonna build a juggernaut.
September 11-15
Substack: TBD
September 18-22
Substack: TBD (I can’t promise a Logan Stankoven video piece, but you better believe I’m gonna try. It’ll be free too.)
September 25-29
Substack: A Tales from the Clipped piece on Mason Marchment (paid).
D Magazine: TBD.
October 2-6
Substack: You know the drill. Roster decisions, previews, etc.
PS: I’ll unlock the Wyatt Johnston video analysis for non-paid subscribers.
October 9-13
D Magazine: TBD
Substack: On the 12th (the season opener versus St. Louis) I’ll do a quick podcast on my stray observations. I’ll do this for a hot minute, but I won’t promise one for every game. While I don’t care for Podcasts, it’s just easier for me: get to take a break from writing without failing to give Stars fans content.
I know it looks a little barren, but it IS the slow season. Other than that, the floor is yours in the comments. Give me your thoughts (do you like the color scheme or was I nuts and I need go back to a normal background?*), questions about anything and everything.
*For some reason I found the color to be oddly soothing for my eyes when writing. However, this isn’t about the writing, it’s about the reading. Don’t hold back if you hate it.
I use the substack app and the background color is either black or white, depending on if I have dark mode on or not.
Nice to see that you’ll be busy 😀
