Into The Weeds: The Dallas Stars versus Colorado Avalanche 2025 Playoff Preview
Is it the massacre everyone predicts?
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick of the discourse.
“The Avalanche are going to bury the Stars in the ice. The Stars will overcome the odds and beat the overrated Avs. Mikko Rantanen is out for revenge! No it’s the Avs out for revenge! You need to be hot going into the playoffs. You don’t have to be hot at all going into the playoffs. At the of the day, it’s all about results. At the end of the day it’s about will over skill. At the end of the day, I’ll run out of clichés.”
This is all just blather to my ears. I just want my hockey questions answered. How does Dallas’ rush attack match up against Colorado’s defensive coverage? Who will be more effective at breaking out of the zone? What element to each team is a mirage? What are the underrated parts? Who should expect to falter, and who should we expect to rise? Et cetera.
So that’s what today is all about. I just want to focus on hockey: will Dallas beat Colorado, or will Colorado beat Dallas? That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less. If that sounds good to you then you’ve come to the right place. We’ll start with the broad strokes, such as key offensive and defensive stats. Then we’ll move into the data broken down by all three zones, goaltending and special teams, coaching, the series x-factor, and finally my personal prediction.
I want to thank all the paid subscribers. Not just because I’m always thankful to my paid subscribers, but because fancy stats aren’t free. So major thanks to Corey Sznajder, Jack Fraser/Patrick Bacon, and Evolving-Hockey for all the insights that make a preview like this possible.
