I was halfway through reading this and in the back of my mind the "but what about when he needs to sit & eat nachos for a game or three". Thankfully you addressed this. PP2 is the best he should expect, and even that shouldn't be a sure thing. Don't make him the extra attacker unless a handful of other players have a * as to why they shouldn't be in first. If he can adapt to this, then I can welcome him back. LW depth on this team isn't great and they don't have cap space. The comps here are to Faksa and Steel, not a Hyry or Hryckowian. However unless there is some mythical fountain of youth found, this needs to be the final +1yr deal.
If the coaching staff can freely decide to healthy scratch him, take him off PP2 and not put him as the 6th guy at the end of the game, it's difficult not to agree with this deal.
But since we are talking about Nill & Co, he will stay Captain with all the trimmings around the title.
Benn can help 3rd line, most of the time. Switch Kivi for Steel, Beck for Faska, sign Robo to what’s left, get happy Robo next year proving he’s worth it! Though I don’t understand why they didn’t sign Zuckarella? Excellent playmaker???
Robertson has nothing else to prove for asking what he is asking for. The fact that Nill & Co did not planned accordingly is not Robertson's fault.
Zuch's new contract is 1M$, but with performance bonuses that will add 5,5M$ over that amount, with 5M$ for playing 10 games. These amount will be added to next year salary Cap.
As I see the next season to be a wash, I prefer we keep the next season's Cap as it is projected right now. And I am hoping for a new GM to invest that money wisely as I am 156% through with Nill.
Cap space check, this leaves the team with ~$10.6M in room with 13 F, 7D, 2G (puckpedia please move Hughes to the AHL). Assume Steel or Faksa are both precariously perched on a ledge, that gives $12.6 in room for Robo. Additional space could be made losing the pressbox Fwd or Dman which would mean Hyry or Bichsel if you want to skip waivers or Capobianco Steel/Blackwell/Back if you rolled the dice.
The other option is what does a shorter term deal look like for Robo? Say he signs for 4-5 years. It still gives him money to install a Scrooge McDuck swimming pool of cash (splash pool or maybe above ground vs what McDavid will get) but also lets him dream about cashing in large one more time at ~30. Is this better or worse than going the arbitration route for one year?
At least there is no $5 million bonus at 10 games.
I'd show up at a Caps game just to see Ovi. Benn, not so much. I do love seeing the cap gymnastics come out of places besides Vegas though.

I completely forgot about that extra attacker shit.

Now that makes more sense! All I saw was the $1M… thanks for the clarification…
