TFTC: What exactly did Nils Lundkvist do wrong?
The Nils Lundkvist saga has probably come to an end. How did it happen?
The Nils Lundkvist era is over. I don't say that to be pessimistic, or to cast on judgment on Lundkvist the player. I say that because there's nothing Lundkvist can do at this point. Last year he had 60 games to audition, and eventually became somebody DeBoer couldn't trust. This year he couldn’t audition for even half of that. There's no world where Lundkvist's development closes that trust gap in time for the playoffs. Only injuries will keep Lundkvist in the lineup and even then, I'd sooner expect DeBoer to trust someone like Alex Petrovic (for example) if he were brought up.
However, what was the breaking point? That's what today's TFTC is all about. Did DeBoer see something he considered beyond repair? Did he overreact? Or was it completely justified?
Sidenote: I’ll try to keep the TFTC series relatively short. My instinct is to write everything, all at once. However, not only is this poor writing but I want to keep these fresh and digestible. Video is no different than looking at a complicated graph of regression models: there’s a lot of information packed into one bite.
The real insight is in the patterns that unfold over time, and the clues these pieces of information can provide. Keep that in mind as we move forward.
