The damage to Toews was done by him incidentally hitting Johnston after he took the hit from Benn. The Benn hit in and of itself was clean, IMO. He wasn't aiming for his head, his head was just low. Keep your head up, they say.
Nils has redeemed himself in this game, if for a day. And not for the pass to Hintz, though that was brilliant. It was for his stick play, awareness, and ability to read movement in his zone. He played like a defenseman, which is notable.
And I feel like the player who has flown under the radar this playoffs is Suter. The guy is just consistent. And that's what I's appreciates abouts hims.

To get it out of the way, I appreciate different perspectives, and respect civil discussion. I only "like" the Benn hit in the sense that he finished his check and it was clean. I don't like that Toews appeared to have been hurt. But that's where my emotions about it stop. The onus is on Toews to keep his head up. Been hit a player with the puck, with his shoulder, kept his elbow tucked, and didn't make contact with his head. There's nothing wrong with the hit. If Toews keeps his head up, or if he doesn't fall into Wyatt, we're not talking about this hit.
Welcome back Roope! DeBoer's comments weren't a Jim Lites level callout, but it's clear who needed to step up and Hintz heard it loud and clear...at least for one game.
Miro had an offensive performance to match his defensive brilliance. On nights like last night, the rest of the hockey world gets to see why everyone in Dallas thinks Miro is one of the best in the NHL, and he is.
Otter is playing great. Keep in mind, the soon-to- be Vezina winner had a GAA of 5.23 against this team last series. Jake is giving this team everything they need to win. Let's hope he can keep it up because if he can, I really like our chances regardless of opponent.
Nils' pass was great, and it's that part of his game why he's so intriguing. But man. He almost single-handedly gave up a goal in the 2nd. Then, he and Suter were on the ice and at least partially responsible for the first 2 Colorado goals. As much as I want the kid to succeed, and I can'tbelieve I'm saying this, but we need Hakanpaa back. And while we're mentioning Suter, his minutes are down where they need to be and he was great against Vegas, but Colorado is exposing him.
Last complaint. Why does Pete DeBoer continue to try Dadonov on the 4th line? You obviously have to put Marchment back in the lineup, but the only times the 4th line has look poor has been with Dadonov on it. The times without him, it's looked great. That was by far the worst line last night. If there's not a spot in the top 3 lines for him, Dadonov needs to sit.
The Stars did a great job of removing MacKinnon from the equation last night. Colorado is such a top heavy team. If we can keep their stars in check, our depth should be the deciding factor in this series. Easier said than done, I know.
Nils actually looked good and made an impact in his 5 minutes last night. Yeah, he was on the ice for 2 goals, but it's hard to fault him for either of them, especially the 2nd goal where he played his guy perfectly in the slot, Suter was out to lunch there. Nils outmuscling Nichushkin was also notable. Not sure how Nils didn't earn himself several more minutes last night, but maybe he'll get some more ice time in game 3.
Just prior to that shift, Manson took Stanky into the boards in what was a high hit… no height jokes please… I think Benn took exception to that and the hit behind the net was payback.
Some thought after beating Vegas, the Stars would have an easier time against The Avalanche… they also are a Stanley Cup championship team. Boy, they are not going to go down without a fight!
No easy series in this league!!! Stars will have to earn it!!!
If Trouba can throw constant cheap shots that go uncalled, Benn was never going to receive any punishment.
As for the hit - It was a hit to an unprotected player that wasn't needed and absolutely shouldn't happen. However, from a hockey perspective, it sent a message to the Avs that we won't be intimidated, (noting that the primary point of contact was the body, which is deemed acceptable).
I don't like it, but others far smarter than me will need to decide which side of the argument should be prioritised.

I’d be up for anyone who won a lady byng for the spot. Would like to see Crosby do it in a few years.

Can't agree on the Benn hit either. Was a clean hit, but Johnston was also coming in at the same time.
