David, very good write up about Robo. My biggest thing with his shooting last year was him not putting the puck on net. He hit the backboard or the glass too much. He has a great shot, just put it on goal and 100 points will happen. I am thinking it was a transition year like you said. He became more responsible defensively and now he puts the 2 together(offense/defense).
Thanks Toons! (Hopefully this works as a nickname; like hockey nicknames, it's unfortunately quite lazy)
And same. He's sometimes hard to notice because he's not a guy who can just teleport from place to place. I wasn't sure about the defensive numbers at first because I thought he was responsible, but I didn't think he was ELITE.
How many people had their money one Robo grading out higher on defense than Hintz? Also, how many players grading out >75 play little to no PK? I get needing to save his minutes, but that's almost malpractice letting that sit on the shelf.
Each graphic that got posted shows how talented Robo is, almost the the point where it is worth hunting one down that shows Robo isn't actually bionic. This year he declined to being a 0th liner from a -2nd liner the previous too years. Unreal.
Similarly to asking if Roope needs to have the random maintenance game off, Robo is a guy you wonder where the brake balance needs to be set between O and D. Additionally, how quickly can you reset him? Can he go from Selke to Richard in a shift, in a period, a game or is it a season? I think it again needs to see who he's partnered with. Is it Seguin with his shot referbed in the offseason? Is it Johnston who...oh he already passed me the puck, how'd he do that? Or does PDB try to level out the lines and you put a Dadonov or a Bourque here (maybe a Stank) and hope that they shine in the spotlight that is Hintz and Robertson.
Again, this offense wicked. The goaltending is good enough. The defense, it needs 2 guys to click between Dumba, LeBoosh, Bich and Lundker.
It's weird. I think good defenders tend to be good on the penalty kill, but with forwards I'm not so sure. Benn's even strength defense was awful, but he was good on the PK. Conversely, Faksa has had some really bad years on the PK. So it seems there's a systems influence depending on the player for better or worse, but I don't know much statistical truth there is to that.
That playoff "fake slap shot" pass to Johnston highlight would be a good one for the "setting" explainer section, though can't remember team or game! Also small typo "substract" in subtitle 🤓

Thanks Johnny. It'll definitely be something to watch next year.
Stellar stuff, David. I’ll spend long stretches on Robo shifts just watching (and appreciating) all the hockey things he does.

I’ll answer to anything. Hockey version would be Toonsy, right?
Duh! Not sure why that didn't cross my mind.

Good looking out Gary!
