I’m glad we brought him back. Even if it’s just for the regular season and we add a legit top 4 D at the deadline like we did with Tanev and bump him down. For him to play 70+ games for us in the regular season was a win for a player at his salary. You mentioned it briefly but I think he’s really the kind of player who needs the right partner. Pairing him with Suter a bunch isn’t going to make a player like Lundqvist look good. For league minimum salary I would definitely take another season of Lundqvist who is right handed and could reach his potential with the right playing partner. He’s not a top 4 D like he was drafted to be, but he’s not being paid like one either and can have a positive return on his contract just by suiting up for many regular season games or filling in for injuries. The upside is there for a breakout with the right partner.

Funny that StL mentioned specifically about Suter bringing the younger players along. Good luck to them.

Though for me, they looked like a pretty normal 3rd line. Nothing great, but it wasn't horror show or anything.

Considering what was brought in on the right side....what else is there to lose than playing him through his growth, whatever it is

I guess a "C" makes sense. For me, none of this matters as long as DeBoer is the coach. He'll never play so why are we pretending. Personally I still think there is an NHL player here but not in Dallas (as you've said multiple times). I'm overall a big DeBoer fan but think he has a blind spot here. I was shocked with this signing.

Maybe some kind of sports psychologist could channel that offensive zone confidence into the rest of the rink...

I'm wondering if the coaching staff has tried establishing some kind of inch-stone development with him. Like hey we want to see you make this one specific change these next 3 games. We want you to make realize this situation and make this read. Once he's shown some proficiency add another to his plate. Maybe it's not practical. What do I know?

Plus get an iPad like Robo to review D shifts with someone? Maybe he and Miro can review 🤓

Surely on a pro sports team there's a mechanism?? Or is all the learning supposed to be at AHL? That would be dumb. I remember being a good high school swimmer and then in college they seemed to ignore stroke mechanics in favor of just beefing up etc etc. But surely he's not such an old dog that he can't learn a few new tricks at 24!

The coaches that doesn't have the time or abilities to make a player better will tell you that it isn't a development league. The better coaches figure out more and different ways to unlock kids. Why would you even have a video coach (outside of challenges) if you aren't there to make people better game after game.

Coaches should be teachers AT every level. If not they are just administrators.

Lundkvist, a guy who isn't talked about for cap hit but for the first rounder he cost. Subtract that out, and you've got a guy who is on par with Hakanpaa (though totally different skillset). The only question is can he develop further and what it will take for him to do that. Looking at PDB, I don't see that happening. Is this a contract so that Nill can throw something back the other way at the TDL?

Did he really play 71 games? It felt like he got benched for half the season which may be a testament to his lack of impact or maybe moreso his lack of minutes.

Gave him a reluctant D. It's not entirely his fault given how the coaching staff views him. I have no way of knowing who's really at fault, but surely there would be some level of reward in working with him on improving his responsibility in the own zone and letting him off the leash in enemy territory.

Crazy thought… you’ve got a guy who excelled in the offensive zone… then make him a forward??? I used to say the same about twinkle toes Klingberg before he learned how to use his skinny ass to slow down opponents!
