Great piece and I love the parallel Kakko-Bourque.
To all the people impatient with Bourque and waiting for him to become the next Wyatt, I ask: What is the problem in having Bourque become a stellar defensive forward and producing around 40-50 points?
We had Faksa here for a long time and he was generally loved. And Faksa was drafted earlier than Bourque.
There are a lot more 1st round draft picks that became much much worst than that.
If Bourque becomes a third liner, capable of going up and down the lineup, producing an average of 45 points, and sustaining those defensive stats, I say it`s a great player to have on your roster.
Bourque is setting up to be at worst a 3rd liner. He's a #30 overall and it wasn't so long ago that would have been a 2nd rounder. Taking a snapshot of the last 10-15 years for first rounders above and below him:
Generally that's not bad drafting overall for the team. Some of these guys were poorly developed (Nuke, Honka, Guri, Campbell) others were odd picks/oddly utilized (Faksa, Dickinson, Dellandrea) and Tufte, man he ended up the box in wheel of fish. But then you also have to look at where these guys were drafted too. Miro being a hit, not nearly as surprising as Johnston. Tufte and Dickinson are Bourque's peers, and Jason is going to get to 500 games and Riley has seen the ice 3 times this year with Boston (no idea about this until just now).
Lets just say we are still in the first period of Mavrik's career and so far he's nailed the basics.
I agree. We can hope he ends up being more than a 40-50 point player, but we will need solid role players as well. I don't want to trade him for a veteran player at all.
Thank you for the review of Mavrik Bourque ! Hé is a pretty damn good player. I’ve watched him live at the games and his play is underrated by many IMO . He is a smart player and his ability to play D with a grinder line is a testament to that . To all I say ‘ Be Patient ‘ . When his chance comes I believe his offense open manny eyes
I think David is spot on, if we trade Bourque, it should be a hockey trade for a prospect/developing player at a similar part of their career.
It mat be worth noting that maybe the trade market and the team isn't quite good enough to let a late 1st round pick go this year. The Stars could be in trouble down the road if we don't have enough players coming through the pipeline to replace our older players (Duchene, Benn, Seguin all come to mind).

Can we get an article of who you’d like to see us get back in a ‘hockey trade’ involving Mavrik?
Will do!

Stars need to make something happen before all the available players are picked up by other teams...
Beware of trading Bourque. He has a history of making a big improvement in his second full season in a new league.
