I’d add Seguin's injuries to the list… and maybe add prioritized defensive coaching as a secondary cause… leading to his drop off in scoring production. He used to be a consistent threat, now just another forechecker who can’t finish???
Didn’t I read, top scorer in his draft class? (Take that Taylor!)
Seguin's injuries might actually be the top choice. Not sure why it didn't cross my mind. I think the only reason why Johns is it despite not being as significant a presence is that Seguin's injury would have been value added where as Johns' presence would have been value added + prevented some bad moves.
Assuming Stankoven doesn't make the opening night roster, do you think Smith plays more than Steel on the 4th line? Any chance either of them plays well enough that Dellandrea sits some? Getting rid of Faksa and his contract would open things up, for sure.
Yes. Smith is a veteran, and a right winger. He's also just a good offensive player who adds
a another dimension to Dallas' attack on the cycle. Unless he suddenly hits a wall, there's no way he's getting scratched. Nor should he. As someone who would always prefer to see the kids play, that's a lot for me to admit but Smith is good people. The only thing that puts Smith's role in danger is if Stankoven blows the doors off. I don't think Nill or the scouting staff would dig Smith AND Dellandrea eating nachos.
On Kane... we know how hip surgery recovery goes, it's not pleasant the stride/skating sometimes take almost a year to get back to normal. For a short-term player, it's causing more problems than solutions.
Great piece. Hope that (cough )improves.
I should have never started smoking, brother.
Tanev’s recovery time is 4 - 6 months....is that an acceptable factor ? I believe surgery was in May....
Would love more stuff on prospects. How are they looking, who's poised to make a big jump, who is exciting?
Got you covered at DBD! https://www.defendingbigd.com/dallas-stars-prospect-rankings-september-2023-edition/
I'll be sure to do some work in that regard here the Stack too though.
Thanks
