When this team decides to take over a game, they really take over a game. It would just be nice to see them do this over a 60 minute period of time for once. Still, that was fun! Go Stars!
Both Texas and Dallas went HAM in the third period tonight. It feels like there's an organizational stitch in the weave that facilitates this. Totally emotional take, but it speaks to their ability to _remove_ emotion from the equation and focus on the task at hand. I wonder if there's a way to quantify this? Shift-to-shift grading in some way to measure consistency?
The same criticisms from the Colorado series persist. Dallas cannot handle speed man to man. They MUST play zone and Dallas D MUST stay in their area of responsibility. Draisaitl even mentioned it during his intermission interview. Nugent-Hopkins goal: both Dallas D were against the far boards leaving Back and Johnston to cover the slot and crease; Bouchard goal: Harley was chasing back to him from above the circles while Johnstons was chasing his guy behind the net. There were other plays that didn't result in goals, but did in chances. Bischel chased the bait to the point and immediately had the puck passed behind him to a wide open winger for a chance 5 ft from Otter. Later, Bischel with a sweet rush chance, but gassed himself by staying to be a forechecker ultimately resulting in him taking a penalty while backchecking on Bouchard.
At some point they have to learn that lesson. They cannot always count on a 5 goal 3rd period, or getting 3 power plays in a period, let alone scoring on them all. They certainly can't always count on their being a hat-trick hero moment from someone to steal a win they had no business getting.
Man, if we make it to the cup has there ever have been a worse team xG wise and other analytics than this stars team? Feel like many games in a row now we've lost that math and still win lol. Crazy. I'm enjoying just being on this high
Very happy for the win for sure, but like you said I don't think we can expect all these PP opportunities as this duel unfold.
Is there any logicial reasons to have Back in the lineup instead of Blackwell or Bourque? What does the coaching staff sees in him compared to the other two?
In the first 2 periods Edmonton carried the game much like the Jets. Dallas has to get better on the boards and make better passes. After the Stars got ahead Edmonton almost looked lost. They didn’t play well from behind but I know that is not how they normally look. Maybe we can get ahead in game 2 so they have to play from behind some more.
For Pete DeBoer to even say what he did ( knowing what kind of human being he truly is ) is pretty damming about the bias that is rampant in the NHL …. If that had been MACJESUS who had been slashed ……. Automatic 5 Game Suspension !! Shame on you TORONTO and your usual BULL$ITT

Whatever happens the rest of the series, at least there’s Game 1, in which we give the big bad comeback Oilers a taste of their own medicine.

100% on the D zone assignments

Good job defending otter too. He was great again

SIZE !
That's not enough IMO. Only 2 hits last night. Even if Blackwell and Bourque are smaller, they play big and bring other stuff that Back does not.
Nothing against the kid, but he makes me think of motel art: nothing stands out, but it fills the room.
That's how a Moose in the room can leave you in awe and petrified to move.
I like the work Back has done thus far.

So we got all that bad blood out...
That's the point, or atleast it used to be.
(In RFK jr. voice: Thanks for medical advice David, I'll read beyond the blub now.)

David, I know you mentioned it prior to, but were you intrigued by the pairings in the 3rd, splitting up Harley and Miro?
