I am ready for Bichsel hockey trade for a RHD. I am worn out on the discount bin/reclamation projects. How much cap space and picks has Nill burned on bottom pairing RD (Nils, Dumba, Ceci, Lybushkin) in the past couple of seasons.

Lindell is locked up and long term, Miro offense is closer to Lindell than Makar. Harley has offense, hopefully PP1 QB and proven enough to me that he should be the 3rd LHD.

Bichsel is still unproven but young, cost controlled, large and high upside, seems like should be able to get a good return on him at this point.

My immediate reaction was meh. But my reaction to trades is usually in the vein of meh, and as you’ve said, David, there aren’t a lot of super enticing pieces in the trade market this season, especially in the areas Dallas needed to address.

Guess they’ll just have to play the games and we’ll see how this pans out.

I agree it’s won’t put them over the top - but they’re in a really bad spot here. Granlund - tough last 3 years is at least in part due to the last 2 being with SJS. I like this with him because he can play anywhere. Ceci - options so limited and Jim needs bodies back there. Easy to figure before they said it that Miro was done - at least for the reg. If I was betting probably more than that. And they’re probably still lookin around.

I feel very National Lampoons Vacation-ish about it. - "If you think you hate this trade now just wait til you drive it."

Hate the Ceci part of the deal. Granlund adds more scoring punch and speed to the middle six. First rounder was an overpay in my opinion

Thinking about this a little more. Granlund isn't an upgrade over Seguin, true. But he is an upgrade to the lineup as it exists for now. I would love to see his speed alongside Duchene. Those two, with Marchment, could create quite a bit. Plus, Granlund can plug into the PP in a big way.

Ceci is a guy that can play 20 minutes a night (shouldn't but can) and doesn't take stupid penalties like Dumba (who plays 15 minutes a night). He also kills penalties and is apparently a great locker room guy. Ceci is an upgrade over Dumba (man, that Dumba signing was awful).

All told, I think this trade is a net positive. Not a blockbuster, but an upgrade.

I also don't think Nill is done with the blue line.

I think Nill missed out on Petterson and instead went for Ceci. I mean the other option would have been Savard as a RHD..not much better imo. The Stars coaches must think a lot of Bichsel too.

Granlund I like as a 3C, that forward group has some juice but yeah question mark remains our D.

This is somewhere between the did something just to do something and whatever you want to call the CAR/COL trade. There was a 1st involved, so it can't just be seen as moving the deck chairs and getting a Russel/Lovejoy.

The good news is, the team got better. Granlund (I'm going to type this with a T in it I know) isn't quite the big fish, but he's better than a token middle 6 guy. I like the flexibility that he's going to bring. I think he's going to be the Stankoven that we all dreamed he'd be this year (this was an unfair ask that he still may achieve). Assuming Johnston can stick on the top line, then you've got a decent makeshift second like with him Bourque and Duchene. The lineups you had for the #th round of the playoffs look solid assuming the 2nd line comes out the way it started the season.

Ceci, I'm going to put in in the magic beans category. Can he act like he's Klingberg and utilize Lindell's safety net? If he can, that makes things real interesting. If he can't, well at least Smith can play 4th line wing. Plus, his he a downgrade over Copobianco? If this team were a car, it would have a dash lit up like a christmas tree, even though it is still flying down the road at 75 and seemingly is fine. This deal is a pair of suspenders on top of the belt they've been using. It isn't going to be enough, but maybe it will get them to when Seguin, Marchment and Miro are all back and running.

Vindication of the preseason hot take!

Kinda confused by the Ceci move. Would have figured Rutta was the play.

Now, could a package built from Dumba, Lyubuskin, &/or Lundkvist land Karlsson with workable retention?

The “cap situation in the future” got a lot less dire with the announced scheduled increases. So Nill went from being prudent to overly cautious.

I like Granlund, but Codi Ceci doesn't improve this team and Nill gave up a first round pick. I hope there's more to come, cuz I agree this doesn't put them over the top. I'd still rather see Ceci in protected minutes over Dumba.

I like the trade, as a whole because they added to their forward depth and won't have to necessarily keep relying on all the rookies to step in.

I don't think they are done, yet.

I think Granlund makes this team better, without a doubt. And knowing Nill wanted a rental and didn't want to part with young prospects, this feels like a good deal to me. With Ceci, he was asked to do way too much in SJ. 20+ minutes a night for him is absurd. But throwing him out there for around 15 doesn't seem to bother me as much as Dumba (right or wrong).

I was thinking positive thoughts about this trade. Oh well, I will temper my enthusiasm.

Brutal take David. I don't hate the trade because I believe in synergy. It was an overpay though. They should have sent Dumba back the other way to balance the scales.

Is synergy what projects to level them up, though? If Seguin doesn't come back, and in his place is a discount Seguin, what has Dallas truly gained in the context of a Win Now team?

I guess I'm trying to find a silver lining. Can't undo injuries. Lost out on Miller but I think his contract length was a huge risk.
