I was/am more down on Rantanen than most, but that's more for the contract extension than the trade, which I would do again ten out of ten times. Comparing Stankoven to Rantanen after one game is just peak silliness.

Yes, but that’s what we do until proven otherwise.

I think the biggest issue affecting Miko and Granlund and the other forwards and also stunted Bourque and Stankoven has been PDB's constant line blender. Seems every game wé have different line combos. Guys don't have time to get used to their linemates before they're changed. I know, injuries and all that, but you have to figure it's tough on the team.

As Nill said, these players don't become available, ever. Rantanen makes the Cup window wider now, and in the next five years. Happy for Stankoven, for sure. Dude's a gamer, but you gotta give to get.

Definitely some about mikko trade for me, but I'm not fully judging the trade until we see a full year of a roster more built around mikko and him being more comfortable

Right now, for me, its I think I'd rather have him over borque. I get it, borque has the higher ceiling probably. I just feel like stankoven brought a different tool that the stars don't have too much of in their shed. Think we got a lot of borque. (Ya ya I understand it might've not been a borque vs stankoven trade situation and Carolina probably wanted stank tbh more for their system. But you can't help but compare the two rookies)

Definitely good thought article and I'm super happy for stank either way. Really great guy it seems like

Yea but there was no way Carolina was taking Bourque over Stankoven, even if Dallas added assets. Stankoven has shown a potentially high ceiling whereas Bourque is something of an x-factor. Carolina wasn't gonna roll the dice on an x-factor.

Wish I could edit posts on substack lol

Anyways I wanted to add. Maybe it's a hot /weird take but it might be easier for us to think about the mikko trade as nill moving our window a year or so instead. Fix the d men problem somehow and run it back. Pray for no injuries. Dunno

You can’t turn down chances to acquire players like Rantanen but you also can’t expect Colorado numbers from him. The Stars don’t have anyone near McKinnon or Makar. You should automatically get 50 assists just playing on McKinnon’s line. Still losing Logan Stankhoven hurt from the standpoint of he is going to be a good NHL player for a long time. Stankhoven plays the game right, he is a team player. It didn’t matter whether he was on the top line or the 4th line he gave all he had. I hope he has success in Carolina but I will root against him when he plays the Stars.

Benn has aboslutely no business playing with our two best forwards in Rantanen and Wyatt.

That needs to change right now since there are no time for low probability rate of success experiences.

I would put Benn on the 4th line as we speak. Benn is the Pavelski of last year.

Granlund-Wyatt-Rantanen

This is the chance to get Fin-lined. Then you have the duchene line, then put Mavs or Dads with Benn and Wyatt. Should be simple, so clearly I’m the idiot.

I am not a fan of that whole « Finland » narrative.

I prefer trying to reproduce, the best we can with what we have, the teamates Rantanen had in Denver.

Wyatt is the closest thing to Big Mac and Granlund to Lekhonen.

If it worked in Denver, I dont see why it would not in Dallas.

Anyhow, if we want to beat Denver, Rantanen needs to produce, and he will not with Benn on his line.

The Finn thing is a “because we can” thing as much as anything. But Benn and Wyatt are stapled together unless Wyatt is getting a bonus shift. Plus Hintz Robo isn’t a thing at the moment and the 2nd line is going to get at least one more game to find their magic. Give me bourque mav and Rantanen if we want to be spicy.

I would love to see Bourque with our best forwards, but the coaching staff seems to prefer Back who is a lower version of Faksa at a reduced price.

NHL coaches in general seems to really like these types of players that have absolutely no flavor.

The Mikko Trade may also make ROBO available fora trade package fon a TOP RHD ???

Talk about the mixed bag of emotion. Yes that is what the team needs but I feel like robo ends up being that guy who is a solid A for years like Pavelski. But so was Iginla.

Stankoven had the same amount of time to adapt to the Hurricanes as Rat has to the Stars. I’m patient and feel ( hope ) that much like PAVS he will adapt in time .

However , with ROBO out we need him now . Unfortunately,IMO his performance has more than underwhelming and at $225,000 / game I would expect at the least…… Less Coasting and more Engagement NOW !

That's a fair point. For me, Dallas and Carolina are just on two different paths. One is depleted, and up against a formidable opponent (Dallas) while the other is healthy and up against a depleted roster (Carolina).

Moose would be a UFA right now, and with hind sight we know we were on his short list.

We moved a metric shit ton of development capital that would have actively assisted him over the impending 8 year deal and about faced on a portion of the in house development we've built up and shown off over recent years.

I get the growing pains angle, but the trade was made with these playoffs in mind. The bar is set as high as it can get, there's no two ways about it.

Go Stars!!!

I think Benn is there in case of any SHENANIGANS directed at Wyatt. However, Benn has a NEWBORN in the house. And I expect him to play better on the road😴😴😴

Rantanen is hella cool. Stankoven is hella awesome. I hope Rantanen remains a beast in Dallas but Stankoven was never going to get the same opportunities in Dallas as he has in Carolina. Dallas is a deeper team, and Carolina needs Stankoven to be a home run to pacify their fan base and other players. So they stick him on the top line and guess what, he runs with it. Good for him. I hope he turns into a legitimately great player. I think Rantanen is certainly better now and likely for the foreseeable future. Both teams can be winners in a trade, it doesn’t have to be a zero sum game.
