The real Joe Pavelski slowly ebbed in effectiveness as the season wore on ……… age does eventually catch up with everyone . He realized how badly he had played in the playoffs and subsequently retired . If the PAVS of previous years had played vs. the Oilers , I believe the outcome Could have have possibly been different . Mavrik will surprise many people : too many people underestimate him . ( You need to watch him LIVE at a game …. TV does him no justice .)

I mean, that's kind of the model Smith was brought in under, plus it makes bouncing Lian back & forth that much easier. His coverage can be questionable for a defenseman, but it's well above average for your run of the mill forward.

One thing I saw in preseason with Ottengier is that apparently no one is watching film of his games. Last season one of his weakest points was the pass across the paint. I mean the goalie has that huge stick so put it on the ice to stop the across crease pass. In his last game against Colorado one of the goals they scored went right thru the blue paint with him watching the puck. Block the damn thing, don’t just watch it go to a opponent who slams it in goal. Rant over until it happens again
