2 things from reading this: I didn't realize just how valuable Miro is until he's out, and Harley's performance has been outer worldly and that graphic says it all. OK, one more thing: Mark Stone is an d*#k and you won't convince me that he tried to not hit Miro. Ok I feel better now. Silver lining is that we all got to see the PP get better.

So strange, I found it very difficult to feel sympathy for Vegas and Hertl’s recent injury…

agreed! I think we will run into Vegas in the playoffs, that would be a barn burner

Couple of observations , but first David your boy Martino just got signed to a two year deal so we can really see how good he becomes . First Marchment has been really poor since he came back lots of lost pucks that create rush chances just doesn’t seem the same player we saw in first half , to me he is not a keeper . Lindell is starting to show signs of overuse guy played 28 mins per in 4 nations and has very high usage now . As you know I am a big fan of his defensive game so are the stars but he needs some lower minutes or a scratch . This Miro injury just makes every game a close affair

Indeed. That series would take its pound of flesh from every player. But—and this is just between you and me, Bob—I worry that the Avs are gonna make the Stars look like last year’s Winnipeg Jets 😬

I'm thinking by then Rantaanen will be better assimilated. Our goalie tandem is better than the AVs and we are deeper on Offense. Can we keep Makar, Necas, Nichushkin, and Mackinnon off the scoreboard enough... Our defense is getting tired without Miro and he won't be back for that series I would bet. I think Stars in 7....!

I wish for that too (Stars in 7, or really any number of games 😉)!

I’m far from the only one but I’m pretty worried about the sturdiness of the defense. Hence my fear of those round 1 outcomes between COL/WPG—maybe my memory is fuzzy but I do remember true barn burners, like 12 goals combined in one game. I just don’t know that the Stars can outscore Colorado… unless they figure it out with quickness these last few weeks.

And boy, if the goalie tandem came into play in the playoffs, that would really get tongues wagging!!

What Harley has done and is doing is unreal. I mean, he's playing 25+ minutes a night and is playing at an elite level. It's outrageous how good he is.

I also agree with Bob, who said seeing the Stars struggle has made him realize how good Miro is; I think a lot of fans are just now starting to realize Miro's impact on games. As David and others have well documented, the Stars shooting percentages flipped from below avg to above avg basically when he went down and it masked how poorly the team was playing without Miro.

But now the sample size has grown and those Corsi numbers are basically indisputable: with Miro the Stars are one of the best puck possession teams in the league; without him they're below avg. That leads to those ugly heat maps we saw up above.

I really fear without Miro and another ridiculously difficult 1st round matchup (Avs) this team is facing long odds in the 1st round.

Seeing Harley blossom has been great. I am eager to see if they break him out to anchor his own pair.

I'm also anxious to see how the PP changes once he comes back. My layman's opinion is that Miro and Rantanen will complement each other better than Harley and Rantanen. Is it possible they wind up with 2 obscene PP units?

I am afraid that we will be tossed out in the 1st round without Miro.

Unless we have the 2022 Calgary version of Oettinger, I just cannot see how we can survive 30 minutes per game of Makar and Big Mac in a best of seven serie.

The Stars without Rocky will likely get bounced in the first round unless Tommy keeps us this super-elite play.

As it stands now, this is Tommy and Wyatt’s team. Great! Tommy should be made Captain just as soon as Benn steps down.

Ok, now to the Stars getting bounced early without Rocky in the lineup…no team in the playoffs could stand to lose its second-best defenseman(Rocky aka Miro)…so it’s no surprise if Dallas gets bounced in the first round.

What will be incredible is if Tommy can lead them to a first round series win…that would be shocking actually.

Considering losing your second-best dman in Rocky, plus the addition of a huge-sized rookie in BigChel, plus working in 2 new dmen this season in Dumba and Ceci…it would be a miracle if they can win a series.

I’m still not sold on the graphs…the same graphs would look even worse if it’d been Tommy and not Rocky who went down with the injury…but that’s never said for some reason. :)

Bottom line: Any team losing their second best defenseman like the Stars have, will be in trouble in the playoffs….we lost the equivalent of Toews with Rocky’s injury.
