As close to the vest as the teams put out injury info you never know what or how bad the injury was. I think he stays with Duchene and Marchment and they will be the 3rd line. I see Mavrik, Stanky and Jamie together as the 2nd line and I believe our 4th line will better than this year.

I know you have to look at a cap hit, but I feel it's a bit unfair when it comes to Seguin. There wasn't a predictable decline in Seguin's game (such as with Benn, given the style he plays). Instead, Seguin got decimated by injuries. It's a miracle he can still walk, much less play hockey at an NHL-quality level. So while I think a "B" is appropriate for him, I think you can be more generous with Seguin. Mostly he's going to be fine-ish, and every so often there comes a time when all the cosmic tumblers have clicked into place and the universe opens itself up for a few seconds to show you what is possible.

A lot to unpack for what seguin is on this team. Is he the veteran leader, the big $ forward, the once wild kid who is now the defensive presence or just a guy on the downward slope playing 3rd line wing. Sadly all of those labels fit in some form or fashion.

I think the B is fair and a +/- can also be argued. You can’t ignore the cap hit and what that is expected to bring to the team, but on the flip side Wyatt and Stankoven don’t get A+ just because they are found money. Seeing the defensive numbers come back so poorly is a shame though seeing the pk stats just leaves me wondering how much of this was player and how much was scheme.

Glad Segs was able to get things rolling again. He’s not going anywhere or going to light the world on fire but at least now that is more of a footnote and less of a headline.

Yea. I think he's just beef stew at this point for Dallas: a little bit of everything, but nothing special. Sucks because again -- we get GLIMPSES every now and then.

Loved the footnote/headline comparison.

Of the big 3 ELC's, which do you think best partners with Seguin?

Then, between Hintz, Robertson, & Marchment, who best completes the pair to make a line?

I would say Stankoven for Seguin: he needs someone ELSE's legs.

Then between the other three, probably Johnston, since he'll likely play more wing in the near future.

I understand the injuries robbed him of the speed and skating skills… but as a long time observer and spending over 40 years on the ice… I cannot understand where his shot went??? Wrists, forearms, shoulders, and core strength…. Which all should have gotten stronger while rehabbing his legs, didn’t. His one timer has disappeared- once Stamkos like, who btw still has his, Why???

That's it, right? It's all connected. Without his speed, he can't gain positioning. Without his edgework, he can't create space. It's a testament to his talent that he still scored 20 goals even while looking like a nothingburger. I also wonder what Seguin might have looked like in his prime without Benn (and vice versa for that matter). Perhaps they gassed each other up a little? It's hard to say, but I agree. Losing footspeed can only explain so much. He looks like an NPC out there most nights.

I think the second half of the season was both a combination of Duchene and whatever his injury was, which we never got clarity on. Time will tell what lines we're looking at next season

Forgot about that. I just want to see a Seguin unburdened by injuries. If the hockey gods give him anything in this life, let it be that for just two straight years. That's not too much to ask is it?

Given what he's been through, he's more than earned it. Let him be healthy - you could literally see how much fun he was having in the first half of the season and then him slogging at times following the injury. He's earned some grace and deserves some unbridled joy

He’s had some ups and downs, but he may have used that first lifeline real early. Remember he’s a #2 pick and has his name on the cup and pulling down almost a $10m cap hit. It almost feels like a reversal of paying your dues.

Would love to see seguin be able to be like stamkos and pull down another quality contract after this one is done, but the magic 8ball isn’t so certain. Odd however when typed seguin in my phone autocorrected to seguimos, and I feel like that was prophetic.
