I think Kakko is a vastly more interesting peice, if for no other reason than his RFA status.
The rental market sucks, but there's a few guys with a year or 2 left on decent deals I wouldn't mind going after. Tuch & O'Reilly would be excellent fits to the forward core, and my current pipe dream is getting Karlsson @ 50%.
Off subject, but do you recall Harley ever showing signs of the high end
defensive stick work he's shown this season, along his development path?
I don't recall him ever showing signs of being such a prolific defender, and wonder how much of that could be attributed too picking up tips & tricks from his NHL peers vs an innate trait I missed by focusing on his offensive upside.
If the former holds closer to truth, and Harley has infact added new tools to his kit while in the Not a development Hockey League, I can't help but get hung up on the thought of what could the golden years of Karlsson unlock in the career potentials of Bichsel, Harley, & Heiskanen.
Smith, Smith. I feel like I should know this name. Doesn't he have a brother that plays hockey?
I think a lot of what you said here is good material, but one thing that also has to be considered is PDB. How many guys is he going to bring in and trust quickly and allow enough leash to not be playing not to lose? Riley played for him in Vegas and likely can integrate quickly. This isn't the type of trade that sets the world on fire, but it feels like it could have some magic beans qualities to it.
I get that replacing Seguin is the goal, but this team needs a 3rd line. With Seguin you had the 2nd line setting the pace and the rest of the team was drafting behind them. Benn+___+___ this season hasn't been great. Dadonov and Steel are 4th liners unless you have an established duo they can join in. Johnston is carrying too many minutes and Stankoven is doing well with everything but putting the puck in the back of the net (directly) but either of them would work here if a RW is found for the top 6. I don't think the team needs to go out and find 2 partners for Jamie, but one guy who can perform solidly on the 3rd line and then add in whichever RW/C is needed and run from there.
Worst case Seguin comes back and is a 4th liner who is worth putting on the PP2. Otherwise he's coming back on the 1st or 2nd lines. He's not reuniting with Jamie, so I would say yes backfilling him is important, but not to be confused with the other issue of needing a guy for the 3rd line also.
Are the Rangers ready to be sellers yet? I think that's as big a question to the price as to Kakko's future on that team. They've delt with Nill once before with a first rounder, think they'd try it again?
Was think about who this reminded me of, and it was Jesse Puljujarvi. He's on a cheap deal with Pit, wonder if more Fins is like more cowbell. (and uh, looking at the advanced stats, Jesse has the advantage)
I agree with your analysis. This should be a move to replace Dadonov and place him on the 4th line where he belongs...On a Cup contending team.
But my guess is that any new forward will downgrade Bourque permanently on the 4th line. That's pretty much the MO of our coach with young players that does not flash immediately.
And Kakko is definitively a much more interesting target.
With things imploding in NY, it's time to take advantage of the situation.
Bourque on the 4th line is at least still Bourque getting minutes. He was on the ice with the first liners against DC, but unless PDB gives that a few more looks, he's basically already a full time 4th liner given how wide open the lines seemingly are with Seguin out.
The 4th line looks really good at times, except you see them shoot and it validates why they are on the 4th line. Unfortunate really.

Darn, no Kris Russell option....😂😂😂💞💞
Oh, there's always an option that rhymes with it though. Good news is that Dumba, Boosh and Smith all put in for that part.
Over-reactionary trade proposal:
Robertson
Dadanov
For
Cuelly
Smith
Kreider
Robertson, Matthew (2nd round pick from the Zuc trade)
I wouldn't mind getting Wyatt his trigger man from his Windsor.
Kreider-Hintz-Bourque
Cuelly-Johnston-Stankoven
Mush-Benn-Dutch
Back-Steel-Smith

Kakko is more interesting to me than Reilly Smith. But I worry about the cost.

It's all moot now with Kakko going to Seattle.
Laine just had a hat trick… how many Stars have had one? This year? Ever?
Injury prone? yes. Young? Yes
Upgrade to ? F-Yes!!!

Do you think there's any way that NSH will move O'Reilly or Forsberg? Do either of them do more for Dallas than the ones mentioned?
I actually love the idea of getting Kakko.
