Not surprised one bit.

As far as I am concern, I would have been perfectly OK in letting Lindell walk in free agency at the end of the season. We already have Miro and Harley in the Top 4, and Bichsel is coming.

At over 5M$, it’s pretty expensive for a future third pair D.

On top of that, we will need money for Wyatt, JR, Oettinger, Harley (in two years), Bourque, Benn, etc.

This contract will not age well.

Gotta have a player like him in a deep playoff run. I personally don’t think his game will fall off that much in the next 5 years. He may get a little slower but it’s not like he can lose much of his offense since he doesn’t have much to begin with. He will adjust to slower football speed by playing positionally sound and risk averse. Good for the middle pair D.

He was always getting a good contract, but this one just doesn’t sit quite right. This deal keeps him exempted from 3rd line duty and all but guarantees miro is playing on the right. That makes the third line next year smith plus likely LeBoosh. I dislike this for the lack of flexibility as much as the unofficial sendoff party for Lundkvist. Was this deal going to be there anytime between now and the end of June, or did Nill get a return for going all in before the river card was turned. I get that the defensive depth is shallow in the AHL, but this contract just furthers my dislike of esa Lindell contracts.

Harley, now also signed to 2 more years!

The Harley deal is solid. Probably as cheap as he was going to go 2x$4m and the setup for his next contract at ~$5m is a bar the kid should easily out earn. Leaves dry powder for a 23rd roster spot and or TDL shopping.

The Lindell signing lead me down a rabbit hole too the UT Planetary Habitability Seminar page on YouTube.

The contract is officially worth it too me.

ESA has the Juice!

Dallas was always going to resign Lindell as I pointed out to David months ago . No surprise from my end , you don’t let a battle hardened top four player just walk out

He was much more involved with Tanev around to support the defense. I would love to see him get a defensively responsible partner. Maybe that's Lybushkin in the short term? The AAV felt a little high for me but maybe with the term and the projected cap raises it ages better than expected. All in all I want to love it as a feel good story. The Don sticking around makes me happy but the logical side of my brain is a little worried we just made him the most expensive bottom pair D in hockey.
