New HC improves the chances that Duchene isn't recycled into the same lines

The team felt like 10,000 spoons and all they needed was a knife. They have talent, but it all felt a little one note. Hopefully some of this can be done in the bargain bin of low cap hit contracts.

Duchene is gonna be a signing we talk about all four years. Well done, Dallas!

In isolation I think this contract works. If they can keep him on the Pavelski plan he can make good on the term.

My question is about timing. This deal right now confirms that Nill is cash strapped. If I have my 2nd or 3rd round pick I’m looking hard at Bourque. And if someone else does that, I’m offering 1.543 to Nils to get him for nothing. Keeping this deal under lock and key until a few other guys are out the door feels better to me.

This didn't age well as Marchment was out the door hours if not minutes later. Still an issue don't get me wrong, but now Dallas is in the pack with all the other cap tight teams.

I really like the Duchene signing and the article about him is great but I want to look at last season a little differently. Well actually the playoff part. So L.A. has Edmonton down 2-0 let’s say L.A. wins. they play Vegas and Vegas wins so the Stars play Vegas for the WCC. I think the Stars beat Vegas and play Florida. I think Florida still wins the cup. If it went that way PDB would still be the coach(bad thing I think) and the stars would still be cap strapped.

Now get Fabbro for 4.5-5 Mio. (according to The Athletic), get rid of Dumba & Lyubushkin and use that cap space to sign Brown/Bourque/Lundqvist/Benn and some other cheap guys from the AHL to fill out the roster

Robertson-Hintz-Rantanen

Duchene-Johnston-Seguin

Benn-Bourque-Brown

Back-Steel-?

?

Heiskanen-Harley

Lindell-Fabbro

Bichsel-Lundqvist

Petrovic

Bourque and Lundkvist are signed.

Switch Bourque with Seguin.

He is a good guy and a good teammate. I just question what else we could have done with the money we just dropped on him? And I do not just mean in this offseason, I am talking about the next two to four years. I would have preferred to focus on building a powerhouse second line around Wyatt and giving Mav more time on the ice at regular strength and on the PP.
