I know this is a short-sighted reaction, but I keep leaving losses with “Has anybody told them they don’t HAVE to lose in regulation? It’d be nice if they could at least get a point out of a loss here and there”

I know they have points… but shift to shift Robo and Roope do not generate chances or control play or dominate as a #1 line should.

Whoever we’ve put on wing has not ignited them. I see only one forward who could… Duchene. He’s our defacto #1 center… put him between Roope and Robo. He can control the puck for slow Robo, and he has the wheels to skate with Roope.

And hope Johnston can keep the Seguin Marchment wheel spinning.

Thoughts?

I have idea how to improve PP until they can get zone entries, win PP faceoffs, again.

At what point does having this many players not playing up to their potential land on the coach? Players need to play well, but it feels like we have enough good players - Robo, Hintz, Miro, Johnston - not playing especially well coaching might be a problem.

I’d say about this time next year. pdb has plenty of runway left because he’s gotten solid results, but if this season proves playing wcf is his limit and he is still looking like he’s a few donuts short of a dozen then I’d cut and run thanksgiving next year. It gives enough time to learn the new program and keeps the buyout reasonable.

Games like last night happen. The bigger concern, as others noted, is the utter invisibility of the top line. Eighteen minutes of ice time for Robo to generate 1 shot? Ditto for Hintz? Top guys like McDavid and Ovechkin routinely put up 6, 7, 8 shots. Something is very off. Hintz is great for driving the rush but I think what they miss is Pavs ability to gain and keep possession which allowed Robo to find room to get open and shoot. That's not happening this season. It feels like they spend their whole shift trying to get the puck. They need someone di that. Maybe more of a power forward like Marchment or Benn? Bourque? Dadonov? Hell he put up 2 shots in 12 minutes last night.
