If the problem is to put the little black thing in the net, maybe the best scorers on this team are not where they should be and/or in the best position to do so.
Maybe try 5 forwards as Miro is not the best QB.
I would also be real curious to see our PP performance of last year against PO teams vs non-PO teams.
Before I get back into the meat of the story I gotta say, that shorty was a big cold bucket of water on my Stankoven running point on PP hawt take.
He finds space more than he creates space, and heavy pressure in isolation has been a bit of an achilles heel of his going back to juniors. Give him an & he'll take a mile, but fully seal him off and his size disadvantage comes into play.
I still think he's got the skills to run point, but as a rookie forward still getting a propper handle on his game in the NHL, it may not be the best use of his time experimenting on him. (NHL not being a development league & what not. Though i still wouldn't be against the idea of bring back Klingberg on the cheap, if for no other reason than to give blue line walking lessons.)
Nice piece. I’m not down on Spott either - structurally they typically look good, but players just aren’t putting the puck in the net. When they look bad it’s for the reasons you cited - slow and sloppy play. I’d be intrigued by loading the PP with hot hands, rather than their more traditional line-up.
Thanks for the perspective. I have felt that the Stars power play will improve in time. I've had several run ins with fellow fans saying it's bad and I've argued that the shot quality and volume have picked up substantially since the first 5 or so games of the year. I know it'll come, we've just got to eliminate the mental errors as described.
Power Play is missing one thing……or should I say one person, and his initials are Joe Pavelski. Tip in’s are now a thing of the past, and unless someone steps in and at least TRYs tip-ins, ………..
My personal read on the Misha Donskov addition to the coach staff was his ability to be a fire starter and big time motivater behind the bench.
I think it would serve us well to give Spott a place up top and let Misha be his mouth peice. The data shows a guy who's got the x's & o's down to a t, but Spott's history indicates he tends to lose the room (or something of that nature) around this time in his tenure.
Could we nip that bud in the process by giving DeBoer a true birds eye veiw in game by taking Spott off the bench?
I appreciate your argument and understand there is an emotional aspect to blaming Steve Spott, but when the hell will he make an adjustment? We don't want to blame the players because we can't change the players or make the puck go in on their shots. The only thing wholly in the Stars control is the scheme that Spott employs. After 2 years it seems like the NHL has learned how to play against the Stars PP just like they did when it was VGK. Spott goes stale after 2 years

Miro is NOT a PP QB period ! Great defensive Dman , however
