Addressing the Elephant in the room (She looks lovely today, don't you think)

Say the team adds Dumba, what does it do to the musical chairs look like on the defense. While we like the proposed lineup above, the team still has Suter and he's not going anywhere.

Skating unless badly injured - Miro, Lindell, Suter, Dumba

Most likely dressing - Hak, Harley

Better luck next time - Nils, Hanley, Bayruther

Unless things change significantly, I just don't see any defensive addition that doesn't come at the cost of Nils or Harley. Are Tanev or Dumba better than Nils (likely and maybe) if he gets to see >15 minutes and 70+ games this season?

Additionally, getting Miro to the left side is another uphill battle. Suter is 100% left, Lindell you have to figure is probably also not swapping. So then you are putting one of Harley or Miro on the right, which would be digging a hole to fill another one.

The team has 7 ingredients that would make a good salad, however said salads are fruit, potato, and Caesar salad which doesn't have the interchangeability that you would want.

I think the key here is that Lundkvist will be fine whether Dallas adds or not. Chances are, injuries will happen, unlike last year. Lundkvist will be a big part of that equation. The difference being that you're in Pavelski's final year, and within that, you have far better insurance than simply the upshot of Harley and Lundkvist growing in their first full seasons. I'm Team Play the Dan Kids Already as much as anyone. But this is the rare opportunity to acquire blueline depth on the cheap, and without term. Seems like an ideal opportunity to exploit what you can, while you can. Also, I really think Suter is gonna force Dallas' hand. His dropoff from Year 1 to Year 2 was SIGNIFICANT. Anything like that next year, and not even an overly attached hockey GM will leave it unaddressed.

It is a real Blue pill / Red pill moment with Suter this season. On one side, you hope he can keep it together since he's going to get a steady diet of minutes. However that means that the odds of him being back for year 4 are high. If he's a borderline scratch every night (even with his resume that is really just long rather than impressive), then odds are that he'd be shown the door either through retirement or buyout (does he really want to be bought out twice...concurrently...has this been done before?).

Starzing answer would be that he's just good enough for regular 3rd line minutes, and still comes back in year 4.
